I’ve often said in class that Logos is first and foremost an educational endeavor, whose goal is to create “educated readers” of Scripture. We all have many roles within the Church, and God has given us a variety of talents, gifts and abilities to fulfill them. My role is to equip Logos students with the critical tools necessary to read the Bible as intelligent, thoughtful people, fully equipped to understand the geographical, historical, cultural and literary contexts from which the Bible emerges. With that understanding, one can better apply Scripture in daily life as thoughtful, mature believers.
It’s a big job, of course, but one that in many ways is no different from becoming an educated reader of Homer, Shakespeare, or James Joyce. God chose to present his Word through a literary medium, so we have an obligation to engage God’s Word with a variety of literary tools......
